Being a foster carer is hugely rewarding. From the minute moments, to the big milestones; trust, love and relationships in foster families grow and flourish over time. But sometimes moments can be bitter-sweet. Foster Carer Trish, captures the fostering moments that lit up her life and talks candidly on how hard it was when it was time to say goodbye.
“I dropped you off at your grandparents this morning (where I was invited for a cuppa). It was so lovely to see you have made bonds with them and you are happy playing…
“I come home to pack some more of your toys up when I spot the dinosaurs you played with, then I avert my eyes to the iggle piggle teddy that you came with me to buy (you enjoy watching iggle piggle on the TV and put your finger to circle in Lee’s hand at the end when the little girl does it to her parent at bedtime!)
“My tears keep running down my face and I cannot stop!
“I am happy once again when I come to pick you up…
“Your little face smiling at me as I get out of the car…
“We have a fun afternoon playing in the garden with the stones and dogs…
“My heart is heavy as I know it’s is the last time but your innocent smiling face does not understand the change you are about to go through and that I won’t be there to hold your hand when you are going to sleep tomorrow night or cuddle you when you are upset or hurt…
“Will you wonder where we all are and think we don’t love you?
“It is the last time I will bath you and wash your curly hair…
“It is the last time I will sooth you off to sleep and hope I make you feel secure enough to relax during the night to have a good sleep…
“Your cheeky little face in the morning smiling at me when you see me and open your big blue eyes!
“Pointing to the curtains to open them and clapping that I did something amazing
“You have come into our lives and brightened the days for us….
“You will always be part of our family and we love you always.”
