Role description
Alex* is a thoughtful and imaginative young person who builds worlds, creates characters and explores who he is through creativity. Many of the places where he feels most confident and connected are online, where he can express himself freely and pursue the interests he loves.
At the same time, he can find the world overwhelming and needs routine, consistency, and emotional support to feel safe and settled.
Maintaining important family relationships is a key part of this young person’s wellbeing and identity.

- Providing a calm, structured home environment
- Supporting a young person to feel safe, settled, and regulated
- Encouraging and valuing creative expression and individuality
- Helping manage routine, transitions, and day-to-day structure
- Supporting safe engagement with online and digital interests while helping to build confidence and connections beyond the screen
- Building a trusted, consistent relationship
- Working with professionals to ensure his needs are met
Who this role would suit
This opportunity would suit someone who is:
- Patient, calm, and emotionally aware
- Open-minded and accepting of individuality
- Able to provide consistency and structure
- Interested in creativity, gaming, or digital hobbies (helpful but not essential)
- Willing to learn and develop their skills
- Curious about the things that matter to young people, both online and offline
- Able to help a young person feel a sense of belonging even when they sometimes struggle to fit in
You may already:
- Work with children or young people
- Have experience with additional needs
- Or simply feel strongly about helping a young person feel understood
Criteria
To become a foster carer, you will need to:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Have a spare bedroom
- Be a full-time UK resident or have indefinite leave to remain
- Be able to provide a stable home environment
