We’re thrilled to announce that our WAYPOINT team has been shortlisted for the prestigious Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards 2025 in the Children’s Services category.
What is WAYPOINT?
WAYPOINT (Working Alongside Young People & Others In Networks Therapeutically) is a dedicated team within South Gloucestershire Council’s Children’s Services Department. The team provides trauma and therapeutically informed support to children, young people, parents, families, foster carers, kinship carers and residential staff. They also support the professional network around a child or young person, including education professionals.
The work of the WAYPOINT team spans from preventative edge of care work, aimed at keeping ‘Families Together’, to supporting children and young people in residential settings with their ‘Next Steps’ towards fostering or returning home.
The WAYPOINT therapeutic approach ensures that every child receives personalised care and support, making a significant difference in their lives.

What are the LGC Awards?
The LGC Awards recognise excellence and innovation in local government. Run by the Local Government Chronicle, they’re the biggest celebration of excellence in local government.
LGC editor Sarah Calkin said: “We received almost 1,000 entries to the LGC Awards 2025, making it another record-breaking year. All those on the shortlist should be extremely proud to have made the cut. A huge thank you to our judging panels of senior council officers, who have tirelessly sifted through all the entries on top of demanding day jobs.
“At a time when many councils face huge change, it’s more important than ever to recognise the difference local government makes to the communities it serves and celebrate the teams and individuals going the extra mile to do so.

The winners of the LGC Awards will be announced at a prestigious ceremony on 11 June 2025 at Grosvenor House, London.
