To mark Children of Foster Carers Week, we brought together children from fostering families for a fun-filled afternoon at AirHop Bristol. This special event welcomed both our primary and secondary age groups, giving children of foster carers the chance to connect, celebrate their unique role in fostering, and enjoy some well-deserved fun together.
An afternoon of fun, friendship and flying through the air!
From the moment we arrived, the excitement was sky-high. We bounced across trampolines, raced through obstacle courses, played dodgeball, and even tackled the giant slides (with a little encouragement!). It was wonderful to see new children welcomed into the group and older members taking them under their wing.
We were also joined by some of our fantastic fostering social workers and our Head of Service, Aimee Williams, who all got stuck in and had a great time. They’ve already asked to come along next time!
After all the bouncing, we sat down together to enjoy pizza and slushies. It was the perfect chance to chat about what activities we’d like to do next year—and the children had plenty of brilliant ideas.

What our children said about the group
We asked the children what they enjoy most about being part of the Children of Foster Carers group, and here’s what they told us:
- “I like being able to talk freely about fostering.”
- “Spending time with new friends.”
- “I feel happy and tired after the group!”
We couldn’t agree more!
Why these groups matter
Our Children of Foster Carers groups meet four times a year and are designed to support children who are part of fostering families. These sessions are led by experienced staff who understand fostering and are trained to support children and young people.
By combining fun activities with relaxed conversations, we create a safe and welcoming space where children can:
- Share their experiences
- Build friendships
- Feel supported and understood
Whether it’s Ninja Warrior, laser tag, pizza making, bowling, or a trip to the Bristol Zoo Project, we love making memories together. These shared experiences help children feel connected and valued and remind them just how important they are to our fostering community.
Support for foster carers and their families
At South Gloucestershire Council, we recognise the vital role that the whole family plays in fostering. That’s why we offer a range of support for foster carers and their children.
