Every October, fostering services across the UK come together to celebrate Children of Foster Carers Week—an initiative led by The Fostering Network. This effort shines a light on the vital role birth children play in fostering families.
Often called the “unsung heroes” of fostering, these children share their homes, their parents, and their hearts with children in care. Their empathy, patience, and kindness help create a welcoming and loving environment. This support can make all the difference to a child who has experienced trauma or instability.
Why it matters
Children of foster carers are instrumental in helping fostered children feel happier, safer, and more loved. Their ability to build friendships, offer peer support, and model positive relationships contributes significantly to the success of foster placements.

How we support children of foster carers
