A warm welcome from one of our newest fostering families

A warm welcome from one of our newest fostering families

Many of our foster carers write welcome letters to help children feel safe and at ease when they arrive in a new home. One of our newest fostering families took a creative approach—writing a poem to introduce themselves and their routines in a gentle, child-friendly way.

Their poem promises care, kindness, and understanding and reflects the warmth, structure, and love that children can expect when they join the family.

We’re your foster family, a loving family of four

We understand you may feel nervous, when you knock upon our door

But please don’t worry, soon you’ll see

You’ll be welcomed by smiles and be part of our family

Kindly take your shoes off, when you step inside our home

There will be some cozy slippers waiting, to warm your tiny toes

Your things will all be treasured here, they are so precious to you

All we ask is that you are kind and gentle with our precious things too

We knock doors before we enter, to keep everybody safe

If you do not want to let us inside, that’s fine it’s your safe space

Mobile phones and electronics can be quite tricky

We’d rather play games, do crafts and get sticky

We charge our phones downstairs at night

To protect our eyes from bright screens and lights

When we are walking around the house at night,

We will be wearing pyjamas and be wrapped up tight

If you use the bathroom, that’s fine you can turn on the light

But please don’t pull the flush, keep the house quiet, hush hush!

We have a shower or a bath every single night

To keep us clean and healthy and give the germs a fright!

We clean our teeth twice a day

We’re minty fresh we like to say

We love to laugh and have fun with each other

We show kindness and love by cuddling one another

You are welcome to join us and be in our bubble

But if you’re not ready that’s fine no trouble!

We like to take photos on our trips out

If you’d rather not be in them, that’s fine just shout!

But if you would like to have your photo taken with us

We will keep it safe in a frame at home just for us

We have two lovely little rabbits

They live in the garden and like to eat carrots

They like to be free to hop and to jump

And don’t like cuddles, it gives them the hump

And at night one stamps his foot, thump thump!

We’re lucky we have lots of lovely family and friends,

Who we like to share our time with

They would love to meet you and share the fun

One day maybe we could have a barbeque in the sun

You can trust us with your words and fears

We promise to listen and sometimes there may be tears

But please know we’ll be here for you

For just as long as you need us too!
