A Foster Care poem by South Glos Foster Carer, Julie.
Ready for a tear jerker? There are so many wonderful moments involved in fostering, but saying goodbye can be bittersweet.
Foster Carer and poet, Julie reflects on the special moments she shared with a baby that was placed in her care for six weeks in her poignant poem, Tiny Hands and Tiny Toes.
Julie says “Every placement I’ve had has a piece of my heart and I’m in touch with all of them.”
Tiny Hands and Tiny Toes – Foster Care Poem by Julie
When you came to live with us,
You were only 5 days old.
Weighing a tiny 5lb 2,
I couldn’t wait to have a hold.
You were small and so fragile,
Tiny hands and tiny toes.
The cutest and most beautiful face,
With a little button nose.
You were so perfect in every way,
Cuteness from head to toe.
Loved so much by everyone,
It’s important that you know!
I’d keep watch while you were sleeping,
And place my hand upon your chest.
Making sure I, could see you breathe,
I couldn’t seem to rest.
We had 6 weeks together.
But, now it’s time to part,
But, I’ll keep all our special memories,
Safe inside my heart.
Now you’re back where you belong,
In mummy and daddy’s arms.
They have always loved you,
And they’ll keep you safe from harm.
They love you, with all their heart,
It’s so clear to see.
Putting your needs before their own,
Back together, a family!
I’ll miss your gorgeous little smile,
I’ll miss the cuddles and the fun.
You’ll take away, a piece of my heart,
When all is said and done.
I wish you all the luck in the world,
Be as happy as can be.
Lots of love and kisses,
From your foster family.
