Ezmae’s Poem

You came into our life,
On a chilly April night.
I scooped you up into my arms,
And cuddled you in tight.

I whispered softly in your ear,
Don’t worry,I’ll keep you safe.
Unless I was mistaken…
A smile crept across your face.

You were such a happy baby,
Content and full of fun
We spent all of our time playing
My work, it didn’t get done!

You were the most beautiful baby,
With a little button nose.
Your gorgeous smile lit up your face,
Cuteness from head to toe.

Ezmae, you’re such a special girl,
We loved you like no other.
Your Social Worker said to us,
Ezmae is going to live with her brother.

We, had to face the fact,
That we would have to part.
I had lots of special memories,
Safe inside my heart.

Our country went into Lockdown,
Our futures were all unsure.
Your brother’s Mummy and Daddy,
Couldn’t adopt you anymore.

Instantly, us as a family
I knew what we had to do
You’d been with us since 7 weeks
We loved you, you loved us too!

I made my application,
For me to become your Mum.
You were so happy and settled,
We always had lots of fun.

In November, we went to court,
And the Judge, he said ‘YES!’
You became my Daughter
Huge celebrations… I must confess.

We welcome you to our family,
We can’t wait to watch you grow.
As your Mum, I’ll do my best,
We just couldn’t let you go!
