Our Foster Carers Book Club is here!

Our Foster Carers Book Club is here!

Foster Carers Book Club launch event with South Gloucestershire foster carers and social workers.

We’re excited to introduce the South Gloucestershire Foster Carers Book Club. A new initiative designed to support the emotional wellbeing of our foster carers and strengthen our local fostering community.

Why a Book Club?

At South Gloucestershire Council, we know that fostering is both rewarding and challenging. That’s why we’re committed to offering meaningful support that helps our carers feel valued, connected, and cared for. The Book Club is one of the many ways we’re bringing this commitment to life.

This initiative also aligns with findings from the State of the Nations’ Foster Care Report 2025, which highlights the importance of peer connection, emotional wellbeing, and community support in retaining and empowering foster carers across the UK

A space to connect, reflect and relax

The Book Club offers a relaxed, informal space where foster carers can:

  • Enjoy a shared love of reading
  • Connect with others who understand the fostering journey
  • Take time to unwind and reflect

Our first session was a warm and welcoming gathering, where carers helped choose our very first book. We’re excited to see how the Book Club continues to grow and bring people together.

More than just books

This initiative is part of a wider programme to promote wellbeing and peer support for foster carers across South Gloucestershire. From training and wellbeing events to community activities, we’re here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
