Young people from South Gloucestershire’s Teen Care Council (TCC) recently surprised their foster carers with handmade self-care packages and personal messages. Each message highlighted a special fostering moment that made a difference in their lives.
This event was part of Foster Care Fortnight, a national campaign that celebrates how foster care transforms lives.
What is the Teen Care Council?
The Teen Care Council (TCC) is a group for children and young people in care, aged 10 to 15, who want to share their views and help shape the services that affect them.
Members work on projects that focus on real issues faced by children in care. They take part in consultations and help improve Children’s Services and Social Care in South Gloucestershire. TCC gives them a chance to speak up and make a real difference.
TCC members represent the wider community of children in care across South Gloucestershire.
There is also a second group called EPIC (Experienced Panel in Care). This group is for young people aged 16 to 25 who are currently in care or have left care. Like TCC, EPIC gives members the opportunity to share their experiences and influence change.
Both groups meet once a month to talk about their experiences and ideas. What they share helps South Gloucestershire Council improve the support it offers to children in care and care leavers.
