Every 20 minutes another child comes into care needing a foster family in the UK.

The reasons why children and young people come into our care vary widely, it could be conflicts within the family, parent’s short-term illness or it could be they have witnessed domestic violence or drug or alcohol misuse.
Around 50% of our children in care are aged 10 to 17 years. Finding foster families for older children is a key priority of ours.
We also need foster carers to care for children with specific learning difficulties or disabilities, young parents, and their babies, as well as groups of brothers and sisters and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.
Children can be fostered from birth, right up until their 18th birthday. We support our young people to stay with their foster carers up until the age of 21, and we have seen an increase in our young people attending university, completing apprenticeships and securing jobs because of the staying put scheme.
